Soup for the homeless

At the end of last year our Middle School ran a service week where we reach out to different groups in the community. My idea was to make loads of soup and feed some of the 'invisible' homeless people here in Daejeon. Many of these people hang out at the train station. You may not see many at first... but when the food comes out, so do they. We ended up serving about 200 people over 2 days with our soup.
Some MS girls were also touched by some of the struggles of these people and started a blanket drive in January. Completely of there own doing they collected blankets, bagged them and took them to the homeless at the station. These people are desperate as it has been so cold and were grateful, gracious, aggressive and hostile in getting their blankets. An experience the girls will not forget.
During Lunar New Year break, the same girls and I (along with Molly) spent the morning together cooking soup and then delivering it.

Molly and Tatiana were the stirring girls.

Gentry and Lani were the tomato girls

These girls fed about 60 people...
with a little effort and a lot of fun!
Some of the girls were sad as we had to turn people away when we ran out of soup.
It was cold and many people were hungry.
We just have to remember that we cannot save the world, but doing something is
better than nothing at all.
While we couldn't feed all of the people,
we did feed many.
Thank you girls!

Jack's Birthday- Part 1

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2047412&id=1077536424&l=5220e51899

Jack spent a great day with his friends today.
In the morning we went bowling. Then we headed to Papa John's which is Jack's favourite Pizza place.
The weather today was brilliant so we then headed to a playground to run off some pizza and get the jiggle out of our legs.
Back to Hansup to open presents. This lead to a Lego marathon of about 2 hours. Cake and Ice cream had to even be put on hold because of the intensity of the Lego building.
Later we watched a movie and then had a snack for dinner.
PHEW- it was a great day. The other boys are great friends and Jack really had a special birthday.

Lunar New Year Holidays

Enjoy some photo's from our week at home!

Skiing at Muju Resort

On Wednesday this week we spent the day skiing at Muju resort which is about an hour East of Daejeon.
Molly had a sleepover at a big girls house (to cover up for the fact that we weren't taking her skiing this time).
We boarded the bus at 6.40 and arrived ready to tear it up at 8am.
It was a pretty cool -10 degrees for the majority of the morning, but it was a perfect day for skiing.
Jack really improved this time with Mum and Dad both skiing with him all day, he moved onto Blue runs where he was comfortably skiing down them.

Jack also got to spend some of the day with some friends.
Not a bad way to kick off the birthday week!

While it isn't exactly a cheap day out, it is not expensive either and because it is so close many teachers enjoy day trips.

Princesses for a day

Molly had her friend Nikita over for a play yesterday as her mum had a baby.
Molly and Nikita had a lovely day playing Mummy's and Daddy's and then dressing up as Princesses.

Jack's friends

Caleb, Jack and Ethan... these boys have been so lucky to be here in Korea at the same time. They all came together and this year Caleb will leave. Jack is sad, but has been lucky to have such great little friends.
